چکیده

The liquid phase oxidation of glycerol with oxygen has been studied using mono and bimetallic catalysts based on Au and Pd metals supported on activated carbon, in order to study the effect of the metal on the distribution of the products and on activity of catalysts. It was found that by using bimetallic catalysts (Au–Pd) a strong synergistic effect was shown. By using a preformed nucleating centre we were able to obtain a single alloyed phase, which allowed us to address the synergistic effect to the presence of alloyed Au/Pd. The advantage of using this latter catalyst lies not only in the high activity but also in a prolonged catalyst life. Although a partial leaching of palladium and assembling of the particles have been revealed by ICP and HRTEM respectively, activity after 10 re-cycles decreased less than expected (about 10%).

Versatile routes for synthesis of diarylamines through acceptorless dehydrogenative aromatization catalysis over supported gold-palladium bimetallic nanoparticles.

Diarylamines are an important class of widely utilized chemicals, and development of diverse procedures for their synthesis is of great importance. Herein, we have successfully developed novel versatile catalytic procedures for the synthesis of diarylamines through acceptorless dehydrogenative aromatization. In the presence of a gold-palladium alloy nanoparticle catalyst (Au-Pd/TiO2), various s...

The promotional effect of gold in catalysis by palladium-gold.

Acetoxylation of ethylene to vinyl acetate (VA) was used to investigate the mechanism of the promotional effect of gold (Au) in a palladium (Pd)-Au alloy catalyst. The enhanced rates of VA formation for low Pd coverages relative to high Pd coverages on Au single-crystal surfaces demonstrate that the critical reaction site for VA synthesis consists of two noncontiguous, suitably spaced, Pd monom...

Supported bimetallic nano-alloys as highly active catalysts for the one-pot tandem synthesis of imines and secondary amines from nitrobenzene and alcohols†

The synthesis and functionalization of imines and amines are key steps in the preparation of many fine chemicals and for pharmaceuticals in particular. Traditionally, metal complexes are used as homogeneous catalysts for these organic transformations. Here we report gold–palladium and ruthenium–palladium nano-alloys supported on TiO2 acting as highly efficient heterogeneous catalysts for the on...

Gold Based Bimetallic Catalysts for Liquid Phase Applications

The liquid phase oxidation of D-Sorbitol has been carried out in water using oxygen as the oxidant in the presence of gold based catalyst. Au/C, Pt/C and Pd/C monometallic systems were compared to bimetallic Au/Pd and Au/Pt on carbon. A strong synergistic effect was observed producing a significant increase of reaction rate. Moreover, the addition of gold to Pd or Pt catalyst produced a system ...

Au–Pd/AC as catalysts for alcohol oxidation: Effect of reaction parameters on catalytic activity and selectivity

The oxidation of different alcohols with molecular oxygen in water has been investigated using a range of activated carbon-supported Au-Pd bimetallic catalysts. The effect of the Au-Pd ratio on the conversion and selectivity was observed and a synergistic effect is present in a large range of the Au-Pd ratio, being maximized for Au80-Pd20 composition instead of Au90-Pd10 shown in glycerol oxida...
